A familiar face was seen patrolling the sidelines at New Orleans Saints training camp: former assistant coach Mike Westhoff, the de facto special teams coordinator last season. Westhoff was first spotted by Jeff Duncan of The Athletic, chatting with players and coaches.
Westhoff, 71, re-entered retirement after spending two years with the Saints; head coach Sean Payton coaxed him into joining their staff mid-season back in 2017. Westhoff had previously spent more than three decades with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, and left on bitter terms when the Saints rebuilt their special teams coaching staff from the ground up this offseason.
