METAIRIE, La. -- This has been a difficult summer for the New Orleans Saints on the health and injury front. So it was a welcome change of pace Monday when special teams standout Michael Mauti announced that he has re-signed with his hometown team.
Mauti, 27, stepped away from the Saints last November to aggressively treat his longtime battle with ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease that required a series of three surgeries.
Mauti, a backup linebacker and special teams captain, signed a one-year deal that included an $80,000 signing bonus and a total of $125,000 guaranteed, a source confirmed.
