Offensive lineman Orlando Franklin's stay with the New Orleans Saints proved brief.
After agreeing to terms on a one-year deal on July 27, Franklin reported to Saints training camp for his first practice on July 30. The Saints released him Tuesday, five days after he signed.
As to the reason for Franklin's short stint, coach Sean Payton explained Wednesday what contributed to the veteran offensive lineman's release.
"The second day, he had some soreness in his knee," Payton said.
The Saints signed Franklin with a view to bolster depth on the offensive line when considering left tackle Terron Armstead (shoulder), center Max Unger (foot) and guard/center Senio Kelemete (undisclosed) started training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
