After a heated competition, Kai Forbath will be the Week 1 kicker for the New Orleans Saints.
Forbath won what was an extremely tight battle with Connor Barth this offseason, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The team has not officially announced the decision, though it will be reflected once roster cuts become official Saturday afternoon.
Forbath was the Saints' kicker for the final nine games of 2015 after Washington cut him one week into the season. With New Orleans last year, Forbath was 9-for-13 on field goals and 32-for-33 on extra points.
During the preseason, Forbath was 3-for-4 on field goals, missing a 50-yarder in the preseason opener in New England.
