J.T. Barrett was a frequent face on the New Orleans Saints practice squad last year, but it doesn’t look like his on-again off-again relationship will continue. The Saints waived him early in training camp and Barrett was called up by the Seattle Seahawks, who signed him to fill in while backup passer Geno Smith sits out following a knee procedure.
It’s a big opportunity for Barrett, who the Saints signed as an undrafted free agent last summer after he put up nice numbers with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The only people standing between him and the backup job behind Russell Wilson are Smith, who is injured, and Paxton Lynch, who flamed out from one team already.
