So the New Orleans Saints don’t expect to see the same Jameis Winston on display Sunday in their home opener at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome as they saw on film in Winston’s NFL regular-season debut for Tampa Bay, when the Buccaneers were pummeled 42-14 in their home opener against Tennessee.
The largest improvement in the season, Saints coaches and players say, usually occurs between Weeks 1 and 2.
New Orleans’ goal is to make Winston’s improvement incremental instead of monumental.
For Winston, improvement would seem inevitable. His first game was one to forget – 16 for 33 for 210 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, four sacks and 10 penalties committed by the offense.
