The Saints and Redskins first met in 1967. In both their inaugural season and 1969, the two clubs played against each other twice a season in the NFL’s Capitol division, prior to the formation of the NFC West in 1970. New Orleans has posted an 8-16 record against the Redskins. It is a series defined by tight, hard-fought games with the Redskins capturing the last meeting, spoiling New Orleans’ season opener in a 40-32 win on Sept. 9, 2012 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Nine of the 23 games have been decided by seven points or less, four by a field goal or less.
