NFL teams are permitted to sign 90 players onto their offseason rosters ahead of summer training camp. The bulk of those players will carry over from the previous season; others are veteran free agents, and many more will join in the days and hours after the 2019 NFL Draft, having not been picked. The rookies that do have their names called from the podium in Nashville often make up the smallest portion of players on these 90-man rosters (which are trimmed to 53 in September), but they generally have the surest job security.
That wasn’t the case last year for the New Orleans Saints.
