New Orleans Saints players took the field in the annual Black and Gold charity softball game Tuesday evening, benefiting Team Gleason and Son of a Saint. This year’s event was sponsored by linebacker A.J. Klein and left tackle Terron Armstead.
Festivities started with a home run derby, which last year’s champion — long snapper Zach Wood — narrowly won by defeating linebacker Demario Davis. Not to be outdone, Davis started the game itself hot with a grand slam in his first at-bat to put the defense up 6-0 over the offense. The offense rallied back but ultimately came up short, with the defense winning 22-21.
