Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco towers over his peers at 6-foot-6, looking every inch the NFL prototype. But his height betrays a weakness in his throwing mechanics that the New Orleans Saints are uniquely suited to going after: batted passes at the line.
Flacco has a low release point after winding up to throw, causing the ball to sail closer to the heads and flailing arms at the line of scrimmage. It’s led to him tying Minnesota Vikings passer Kirk Cousins for the league lead at 11 passes knocked down by defensive linemen in 2018. To his credit, that’s something Flacco has worked with Ravens quarterbacks coach James Urban to correct.
