The New Orleans Saints are planning to host free agent wide receivers for tryouts in the days before training camp, but it’s tough to find many appealing options still available this late in the summer. But Michael Thomas’ June surgery gives them few other choices.
Let’s be real about this: players still looking for work in July are either past-their-prime veterans or disappointing draft picks who have already washed out with a team or two. The Saints won’t find anyone who can replace Thomas.
But maybe they can find some help to strengthen the unit as a whole, so that young players like Marquez Callaway or Deonte Harris aren’t asked to do too much with Tre’Quan Smith on top of the depth chart.
