The New Orleans Saints are set to enter the 2019 free agency signing period with two big names to consider: running back Mark Ingram and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. The NFL’s franchise/transition tag deadline is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5 at 3 p.m. Central, but don’t expect it to come into play for New Orleans.
Each NFL teams is allowed to tag one unrestricted free agent with the franchise or transition label. The tags are fully-guaranteed one-year contracts, but leave the door open for another team to sign the player away. The difference lies in compensation, as well as value (the transition tag is slightly less-expensive than the franchise tag).
