Former Saints QB Savage cut by 49ers less than a week after signing

The New Orleans Saints must feel pretty good about their quarterbacks room. One of the competitors for a roster spot to not cut the mustard, Tom Savage, was released by the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday after signing with them the previous Tuesday. The news was first reported by Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Savage was let go by San Francisco to open a spot for defensive back Tyvis Powell, who was promoted from the 49ers’ practice squad. San Francisco added Savage this week to bolster a quarterbacks depth chart hit catastrophically from injury, having lost Jimmy Garoppolo to ACL surgery earlier in October.
