INDIANAPOLIS -- The free-agent acquisition of safety Jairus Byrd in 2014 will forever be viewed as one of the most questionable signings the New Orleans Saints made.
Byrd was a top-tier safety for most of his first five seasons with the Buffalo Bills and averaged 4.4 interceptions per season, a reflection of the consistent impact he made with turnovers. In three seasons in New Orleans, though, Byrd caught just three interceptions total, and his play never measured up to the five-year, $56 million deal he signed to join the Saints.
Doug Marrone was the head coach of the Bills back in 2014 when Byrd left.
