Steve Gleason’s documentary premiered Saturday at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, leading to a standing ovation and a room full of tears, based on most accounts.
Gleason’s former New Orleans Saints teammates Drew Brees, Scott Fujita and Eric Johnson were among those in attendance for the premiere. Brees shared a photo of the standing ovation inside the theater:
The documentary film “Gleason” is an intimate look at Gleason’s battle with ALS that sprung from home videos he and his wife, Michel, began filming for their son, Rivers. Based on various accounts of the film, it spares none of the heartache and difficulty Steve and Michel and other loved ones have faced, while also celebrating the way they have turned the diagnosis into a worldwide crusade to improve the lives of ALS patients and search for a cure.
