Things are moving as scheduled for New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who joined his teammates after two weeks away while looking for answers on his injured throwing hand. Brees took the field at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for warmups before the Saints’ Sunday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys and stuck to his routine of stretching and practiced throwing motions.
Brees won’t play against the Cowboys, or any of the next several opponents the Saints have lined up. Doctors suggested he could miss six to eight weeks while rehabbing his injury, but after trying out his surgically-repaired thumb, Brees is reportedly optimistic that he can return in as few as five weeks.
