Statistically speaking, Drew Brees would be more than worthy of consideration for the NFL MVP award.
The 37-year-old New Orleans Saints quarterback is in the midst of one of his better seasons in his 16-year career. He leads the NFL in passing yards (3,587), completion percentage among regular starters (71.5) and touchdown passes (30).
Via First-and-10 stats master Gene Guillot, here's a breakdown of what Brees is on pace for by season's end:
- 474 completions (best in a single season in NFL history)
- 663 attempts (fifth)
- 5,217 passing yards (fourth)
- 44 touchdowns (seventh)
I've heard the gripes of Saints fans the past few weeks about why Brees isn't in the conversation for league MVP.
