One of the most underrated aspects of draft weekend is team’s ability to acquire veteran talent in exchange for draft picks. Often times teams will wait to make sure they have acquired a replacement solution before making a trade of a veteran they would otherwise need. On the opposite end, the acquiring team feels the vet can provide a bigger impact than a newbie, and they are willing to absorb the salary to get that talent.
To do so, teams must have cap space to absorb a veteran contract. The Saints are one of a handful of teams without much space to work with.
