Former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason has won the 2015 George Halas Award from the Pro Football Writers of America, the organization announced on Monday.
The award is given to an NFL player, coach or staff member who overcomes adversity to succeed. Halas was an owner, manager and player for the Chicago Bears and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.
Gleason is the third player from the Saints to win the award, joining kicking Tom Dempsey (1972) and quarterback Drew Brees (2007).
