Drew Brees remembers the moment that turned his career around.
Brees was in his fourth year in San Diego, a starter ahead of Philip Rivers, and the rookie was coming on strong. Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer told Brees he was on a short leash heading into week 4 game against Tennessee.
Brees started slowly. A few punts to start the game, and on the last series, Brees suffered a grade two AC separation of his non-throwing shoulder, and Schottenheimer came over to tell his quarterback he had one more chance before Rivers would take over.
A career seemed to be on the verge.
