The New Orleans Saints made a minor wave this week by signing a few veteran free agents and losing some of their own to injured reserve. One of the players they signed is former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Brandon Tate, an accomplished special teams returner.
Including the playoffs, Tate has fielded 215 punts and 260 kickoffs over a nine-year career spanning 133 games. That’s a wealth of experience unmatched by anyone else on New Orleans’ roster. The Saints have tried out a number of players on return duties, but were unsatisfied with the results.
So Tate entered an open field.
