WASHINGTON -- Steve Gleason's signature legislation may soon be on the way to the White House for President Barack Obama's signature.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-Jefferson, said the Steve Gleason Act should get a vote Wednesday (July 15). The legislation would make speech generating devices, such as the one used by Gleason to communicate, more readily accessible for patients with ALS and other neurological disorders available through Medicare and Medicaid. It has already passed the Senate.
The bill is named for Gleason, a former inspirational player for the New Orleans Saints, who was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in 2011
"This is a big step forward for Team Gleason and all those suffering from ALS and other neurological disorders," Scalise said.
