Once upon a time, the Saints weren’t just known for having a strong defense, they were known for having a dominant defense. Those were the Jim Mora years, the days of the Dome Patrol. Things have been different under Sean Payton. In fact, the Saints have had some historically bad defenses since 2006. But that’s changing.
Under defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, some things are starting to turn around. And some things are a little deceptive. Overall, the defense is better than when Dennis Allen took over from Rob Ryan during the miserable 2015 Season. In that year, the Saints gave up 476 points, the most during the Payton era.
