The NFL and the owners have made it pretty obvious they want an 18-game regular season. The players have made it just as obvious that they don’t want an 18-game season. They don’t even like playing on Thursdays. So it would seem that the NFL and the NFLPA are at an impasse. It’s not happening. Nothing to see here. Unless . . . someone can talk the players into 18 games. The NFLPA, its leadership, and players are smart. They know that if the NFL wants the 18-game schedule, they will have to give something up. The thing they have to give up has to be pretty substantial.
