The New Orleans Saints were hit with a big loss when longtime center Max Unger opted to retire ahead of the 2019 season. Unger’s decision came in the midst of free agency and sent the Saints scrambling to find a replacement, with almost $7 million in salary cap savings in tow.
You can’t fault Unger for waiting until now to retire. Everybody has one of those days where they get out of bed and think to themselves, “I’m not going back to work.” Now, Unger is a little different from everyone else — he gets to retire to the family ranch on Oahu, the big island in Hawai’i, with several big NFL contracts in his pockets.
