The New Orleans Saints haven’t experienced as many opt outs due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic as other teams around the league, but they did open training camp with two veteran players choosing to punt on the 2020 season. Backup tight ends Cole Wick and Jason Vander Laan each opted out and will return to compete in 2021, opening two spots on the Saints’ 90-man roster.
A new NFL rule for training camp requires teams to cut their rosters down to 80 players from 90 by Aug. 16, the day before padded practice sessions may begin.
