"I want to be a Saint for the rest of my career," Brees told 104.5-FM in Baton Rouge earlier this week. "I think I've got a lot of good years left."
Brees currently has one year left on his current deal, and is scheduled to count for $30 million against the cap this season unless some of that money is moved to future years.
A four-year extension would keep Brees under contract with the Saints through 2020, when he will be 41 years old. New Orleans just signed head coach Sean Payton to a five-year extension, keeping him with the team through 2020 as well.
