PORTLAND – New Orleans started quickly Monday but couldn’t carry over an encouraging first quarter the rest of the night, getting outplayed by Portland from there en route to a second consecutive defeat to open a five-game road trip. The Pelicans led 31-26 after 12 minutes, behind a balanced attack, but stagnated offensively after that. New Orleans finished with just 15 assists, tying a season low. Utah, Phoenix and Denver remain on the team's current trek.
