Pelicans will face Lakers and likely second overall draft pick in their NBA Summer League opener

The 2015-16 season just concluded two days ago, but basketball fans won’t have to wait long to watch more NBA hoops. The full schedule for the 2016 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas was announced Tuesday, with New Orleans slated to open its pool-play competition against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, July 8 (9:30 p.m. Central tip-off), at the Thomas & Mack Center. Barring trades, the Lakers-Pelicans opener will feature the No. 2 and No. 6 overall picks, respectively, from Thursday’s draft at Barclays Center.

Likely due to its possession of the sixth pick, New Orleans will play more evening and prime-time games in comparison to 2015, when the Pelicans did not have a draft pick.
