Pelicans shootaround update presented by HUB International: Anthony Davis and Omer Asik expected to play against Spurs

Finally, there’s some positive news on the health front for New Orleans.

Not only did Alvin Gentry say Friday morning that Anthony Davis (shoulder) and Omer Asik (illness) are expected to play tonight vs. San Antonio (7 p.m., Fox Sports New Orleans, ESPN), but Tyreke Evans appears to be making progress in his comeback from knee surgery. Gentry said Evans’ return is “getting close.”

Davis, who sat out Wednesday at Oklahoma City after colliding with Denver’s Emmanuel Mudiay on Tuesday, participated in today’s shootaround and said he was able to shoot comfortably.

“When the pain is not so great, he can do it,” Gentry said of Davis’ ability to play.
