On September 20, the gaming developer 2K Sports will release the eighteenth installment of their tremendously popular NBA 2K franchise. As the gaming industry as a whole has picked up in the past decade or so, it has found its way into nearly every industry; professional sports are clearly no exception. Sports video games were fantasy before the “F” became capitalized and we all started pouring money into each other’s bank accounts. I’ve been playing NBA 2K since the 2K5 installment, when I scored 103 points with the point god Chauncey Billups. But as I’m sad to admit, Chauncey isn’t around anymore, and a new generation of NBA players have populated the rosters of these virtual teams.
