There was a flurry of activity at the 2021 NBA trade deadline across the league and the New Orleans Pelicans made a smaller deal, shipping JJ Redick and Nicolo Melli to the Mavericks in exchange for James Johnson, Wesley Iwundu and Dallas’ 2021 second round pick.

The Dallas/New Orleans trade in full:

James Johnson, Wes Iwundu, cash considerations and the Mavericks' 2021 second-rounder to the Pelicans for JJ Redick and Nicolo Melli .

For the Pelicans to receive any compensation in return for Redick and Melli, two players strongly believed to be on their way out this summer — if not sooner via a waiver and hit the buyout market, should be considered a win for New Orleans.
