DENVER – New Mexico State women's tennis sophomore Clara Rizea was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Month for singles on Thursday after going 3-1 in singles play for the month of October.
This is the first WAC Singles Player of the Month honor for the ULM transfer and second-straight month an Aggie has earned the honor.
Rizea first took down New Mexico's Maddie Chavez 6-3, 6-3 to open the UNM Halloween Howl before ousting Chavez's teammate, Lauren Rich, in similar fashion 6-3, 6-1. The Timisoara, Romania, product dropped her lone match to Emily Kolbow 0-6, 7-6, 7-6 before rallying on the final day with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Iowa State's Karen Alvarez.
