ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico State men’s basketball coach Marvin Menzies will fly to Las Vegas, Nev., in the next 24 hours to interview for the vacant UNLV Runnin’ Rebels coaching position, according to multiple reports.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal was the first to report the Menzies interview.
UNLV fired Dave Rice in January in his fifth season with the program and Menzies, a former UNLV assistant, has had his name on the list of rumored candidates since.
A message left with Menzies was not returned to the Journal on Friday afternoon.
UNLV Athletic Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy on Friday morning told ESPN 1100 radio in Las Vegas that Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin this week had verbally accepted an offer and “on good faith” she believed he was flying back home to Cincinnati to tell people there of his decision.
