SAN DIEGO – The New Mexico State Women's soccer team battled all night, but gave up a late goal in a 1-0 loss against San Diego State Friday night at the San Diego State Sports Deck.
"We let one slip," said head coach Rob Baarts. "To be fair, we had a great performance, we battled in the first half and played very well in the second half and just couldn't get it done."
The Aztecs (1-0-0), who were the preseason favorites to win the Mountain West Conference, set the tone early and controlled the first 20 minutes of the match, but a red card in the 22nd minute against SDSU's Chloe Frisch seemed to change the momentum.
