LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Plagued by a series of untimely injuries to start the 2019-20 season, the New Mexico State men's basketball team received a much-needed piece of good news late Wednesday morning when it learned junior guard Evan Gilyard received an NCAA waiver that makes him eligible to play immediately.
A product of Chicago, Ill., Gilyard suited up for I-10 rival UTEP for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons before transferring to New Mexico State following the conclusion of last season. So far this season, seniors AJ Harris and Clayton Henry have not played a single minute due to injuries sustained prior to the start of the season, leaving the Aggies thinner than anticipated in the back court.
