LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Redshirt freshman Matalasi Faapito was named one of the 15 finalists for the NFCA/Schutt Sports Division I Freshman of the Year on Thursday morning.
The Temecula, Calif., native has put together one of the more unique seasons ever in college softball. Faapito is the only player in Division I to hit at least 16 home runs and strike out 60 batters. She recorded the program's first no-hitter in a decade on Apr. 16 against Tarleton State. In the batter's box, Faapito leads the WAC in home runs (16), slugging percentage (.
