UNLV on Saturday announced it has chosen New Mexico State’s Marvin Menzies as the Runnin’ Rebels new basketball coach.
The decision, after a tumultuous past few weeks that included UNLV choosing Chris Beard over Menzies in late March only to have Beard leave Friday to take the Texas Tech job, is still pending the approval of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents.
The 54-year-old Menzies has not returned a Journal message seeking comment
UNLV fired Dave Rice in January in his fifth season with the program and Menzies, a former UNLV assistant, has had his name on speculative lists of candidates since, saying two weeks ago he chose to remove his name from consideration for the job before UNLV hired Beard.
