ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico State track and field team took on top competition at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Taniya Mitchell headlined the squad's performance as she posted a new program record in the weight throw.
Mitchell recorded a mark of 18.77m (61-7) taking home first in the event while also rewriting the NM State record books. Mitchell previously threw 18.70m (61-4) on her fourth attempt, which also would have put the senior atop the records, but bested the mark on her final attempt. Coming into the meet, she sat in third following a personal record set in the Aggies' season opener.
