ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Before they were called blitzes, they were called red dogs.
The University of New Mexico football coaching staff called off the red dogs Saturday during a 40-play scrimmage at University Stadium, and the red-jerseyed Lobo offense took full advantage.
With the normally aggressive UNM defense restricted to a four-man rush, the offense scored four touchdowns, averaged about 7 yards per play and had only two plays go for negative yardage.
With spring practice coming to a close this week, coach Bob Davie said he wanted to see his offense – dominated most of the spring by a far more experienced defense – get into the flow.
