Punt, pass and kick? Not exactly. Zack Rogers’ athletic résumé reads more like this: Catch, kick, pin and punt.
Now, add the following: fake punt, first down (times two).
Last Saturday, Rogers accomplished what might have been a feat for the record books. During the New Mexico Lobos’ 40-21 loss to Tulsa, the UNM senior ran for first downs out of punt formation – twice.
The fake punts were called plays, Rogers said, though he had the option to punt the ball away if he didn’t think he could reach the first-down marker.
Both plays, he said, “were blocked really well.
