Forgive the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team for avoiding the Wyoming subject.
The Lobos’ recent memories are decidedly unpleasant.
Last season, the Cowgirls handed UNM its only home loss in hard-to-swallow fashion. A late UNM turnover gave Wyoming a final possession, and Tommi Olson’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer gave the visitors a 60-59 win. It was Olson’s only basket of the game.
This season, Wyoming grabbed an early double-digit lead and effectively pummeled the Lobos, 78-69, in Laramie. The Cowgirls outrebounded UNM 41-21 and scored 50 points in the paint.
The latter game was roughly six weeks ago, but Lobos coach Mike Bradbury says little has changed with the Cowgirls since.
