UNM women hold off San Diego, advance to WNIT Sweet 16

The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team outscored San Diego, 8-4, in the final 70 seconds to earn a 73-69 win on Sunday at the Pit and punched its ticket to the WNIT Sweet 16.

LaTascya Duff started the run with a 3-pointer made while being fouled. She missed the free throw. Duff, Antonia Anderson and Shaiquel McGruder scored 16 points each to lead UNM.

Jaedyn De La Cerda made one of two free throws with 5.2 seconds left for the winning margin.

The Lobos (26-9) will play the winner of the Oregon State-Portland game, set for 5 p.
