For Jerrick Reed II, five minutes made all the difference.
Saturday afternoon, Reed, a former standout safety at New Mexico and projected day three NFL Draft pick, was surrounded by friends and family at his draft party. The fourth and fifth rounds were over. The sixth was a little over halfway complete.
And Reed hadn’t heard his name called.
“You see the next guy, another safety, another safety, another safety,” Reed told the Journal. “You just wonder like, ‘man, is my name gonna come up?'”
Then, his phone rang. A member of the Seattle Seahawks organization was on the line.
