IT’S LIKELY asking too much, but something positive this city needs would be the UNM men’s basketball team approaching the 17-0 record posted by the 1967-68 Lobos. Picked for last place in a preseason WAC poll, the then No. 4 ranked Lobos lost a nail-biter in their bid to go 18-0 in Tucson to Arizona, 69-68. They would win their next 3 games to go 20-1 and avenged the Arizona loss with a 102-74 Pit pasting of the Wildcats while on their way to winning the WAC title. It was excitement at its best for Albuquerque and New Mexico.
