AUSTIN, Texas – Simon Spangenberg of The University of New Mexico men's soccer team was lauded with the highest academic achievement a college athlete can attain as he was named as the Google Cloud Academic All-America® of the Year for Division I men's soccer. The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
In earning the prestigious academic honor, Spangenberg becomes the fourth Lobo all-time and the second men's soccer player to be named as the Academic All-America® of the Year in a respective sport. In that, Spangenberg joins the likes of Cherise Beynon of women's basketball in 2017-18, Luke Caldwell of track and field in 2013-14 and Simon Ejdemr of men's soccer in 2009-10.
