Sanchez tossed in Lobo women’s loss

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Thanksgiving leftovers left a bad taste in the Lobos’ mouths once again.

Despite strong play from its posts, the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team could not withstand a 3-point barrage by Duquesne in Saturday’s Thanksgiving tournament championship game at the Pit.

Senior guard April Robinson positively went off for the visiting Dukes, hitting seven 3-pointers and scoring 34 points in a 78-69 Duquesne victory. Robinson played the entire game, grabbed 11 rebounds and had six assists on her way to MVP honors.

The Lobos, meanwhile, had a 16-game winning streak at the Pit snapped, losing in the building for the first time since last season’s Thanksgiving tournament final.
