Plan for local Ellenberger service is in the works

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Bob Briggs, a close friend of Norm Ellenberger, and the University of New Mexico are in talks to hold a local memorial service for the late former Lobos men’s basketball coach in the near future, perhaps in the Pit.
UNM athletic director Paul Krebs texted the Journal on Tuesday to say: “Nothing definite happening yet. Agreed to work (with Briggs).”
Ellenberger died Saturday at his cabin in Watersmeet, Mich. A memorial service is scheduled Dec. 5 in Minocqua, Wis.
He coached New Mexico from the 1972-73 through the 1978-79 seasons and went 134-62, with two NCAA Tournament appearances.
