ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — For Gildan New Mexico Bowl personnel, it’s almost the holiday season.
There are still loose ends for the game’s executive director, Jeff Siembieda, and his staff to tie up. Then it will be time for a short breather.
“And then it starts all over again in January,” Siembieda said on Monday.
The 10th annual game — one that many doubted would ever be created in the first place, much less make it through a decade — appeared to be a smashing success on Saturday. An announced crowd of 30,289, the third biggest in the game’s history and one that looked every bit like 30-grand, watched Arizona edge New Mexico 45-37 in a contest that wasn’t decided until the final minutes.
