ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico football team will open the 2016 football season at home against the South Dakota Coyotes on September 3. The time of the game will be announced when the 2016 television schedule in announced.
The Lobos and South Dakota have never played on the gridiron. The Coyotes went 5-6 in 2015, including a win on the road at North Dakota State 24-21. NDSU was the four-time defending NCAA FCS Champions. USD plays in the Missouri Valley Conference for football.
The Coyotes, located in Vermillion, South Dakota, will have a new coach in Bob Nielson, who will be starting his 24th season as a head coach, but his first for USD.
